An Artistic Duo Created a Sculopture ‘Absorbed by Light’ to Highlight an Obsession with Phones

The Amsterdam Light Festival is one of the largest light festivals in Europe, hosted yearly since 2012. During the winter season, artists from all around the world take part in the festival, producing unique light exhibitions that inspire and inspire both its customers and fellow artists.

Gali May Lucas is a British artist and among the participants of the festival.
Together with sculptor Karoline Hinz, they created a sculpture, featuring people focused on their phones with light illuminating their faces. Created a series of statues, featuring people focused on their phones with warm light illuminating their faces. The installation is titled ‘Absorbed by light’. The artist claims she wanted to create something that everybody could relate to.

“Cycling to work in the evenings, I see folks lost in the light of Their mobile phones. On park chairs, on the tram, in restaurants — nobody talks to each other. The white light and white noise is somewhat eerie if you take a look at it in a specific way — and you’ll see this come through strongly in the last work,” states Gali.

These Illustrations Perfectly Depict a Harsh Reality of Modern Life

In a contemporary world of information overload, social media addiction, and work burnouts, it’s common to feel helpless. These are a few of the concepts behind the work of German illustrator Sergio Ingravalle who produces witty, thought-provoking images that many find all too easy to relate to. Each minimalist example from the artist Mindshots series portrays complex themes with just a few lines and shapes, demonstrating the artist has a natural knack for visual language.

“During my travels, I met a lot of fantastic designers and artists that I knew as soon as I came back home to Germany illustration will be my new path.” He started by producing watercolor portraits but felt like something wasn’t perfect. It took weeks before Ingravalle discovered his daring, black and red style he’s now known for.

Inspired by regular moments, Ingravalle began working on his Mindshots series.

“The name was born from the ideas that frequently pop out while working, chatting, watching a movie, hanging out with friends or while being tired from the physician’s waiting room,” he reveals. “Some are critical, while some are only plain ridiculous.” His first from the series indicates a red bird was wearing an oxygen mask. The poignant example visualizes how polluted city air is causing serious damage to the surrounding wildlife. The artist shows, “I had this picture in my head for months after visiting these huge cities with intense smog on my trip.”

After years of producing his smart illustrations, Ingravalle chose to curate a publication of his 50 finest Mindshots. Following a visit to a book fair in Frankfurt equipped with a rough draft, it is now published and available on Amazon.

Stuart McReath’s Editorial Illustrations Explore Society’s Great Struggles

Stuart McReath‘s high-definition illustrations employ stark shadows which lend an almost three-dimensional characteristic to his envisioned scenes. McReath also utilizes striking juxtapositions of scale and visual metaphors like a physician determining the”health” of a college with a stethoscope. Many of the works shown here were produced as editorial illustrations for posts concerning social issues such as gun legislation, school testing, and the death penalty. A CGI Master Creates Sci-fi Inspired Artwork That Reflects Today’s Society

Mike Winkelmann aka “beeple” was making an art each day for just about a decade. Three-thousand three-hundred and eighty-seven days straight. He seems to live in another dimension: each generation is an astonishing, beautiful vision of science-fiction. He can make the unnatural appearance natural; the artificial feel real, the foreign look comfortable. Most often his pieces are renderings — images –, but he’s adept at crafting otherworldly short movies too.

He has long been revered online for all these incredible creations, and many years ago, he made a music video for musician Flying Lotus. Ever since that time, he has been on FlyLo’s tag, Brainfeeder. In July, he provided visuals to the Democratic National Convention.

Winkelmann lives in a tiny town in Wisconsin one hour north of Milwaukee. He is 35 years old, a father of two, and more dedicated to his craft than a flower is to sunlight. He is the type of artist that makes other artists give up.
