An Illustrated Visual Diary of An Expat’s Life in Berlin

Berlin-based British urban sketching artist Keir Edmonds retains a visual journal that illustrates his life as an expat in Germany‘s capital. Assuming that “you must put in 10,000 hours to get excellent at something,” the self-confessed “Englishman lost in Berlin” conveys a sketchbook and pencil everywhere he goes. From local architecture to summertime canals and graffiti-coated streets, his growing portfolio captures the undeniable charm of this city.

Edmonds started keeping sketchbook journals in 2015 with the wish to enhance his skills in observational drawing. Today, having filled over eight sketchbooks, the gifted urban sketcher shows that the process hasn’t only improved his drawing abilities, but has also turned into a journey to discovering more about his character. With every drawing, Edmonds posts anecdotes on Instagram, describing his day, as well as the characters he meets while sketching. “The caliber of people you meet when urban drawing in Berlin is often superior to that of any other place I have experienced,” he confesses.

Most recently, the artist has produced a string of painted canvases, demonstrating the varied community and architecture of his “crazy hood,” Kreuzberg. For Edmonds, each sketch could be its own experience. “If you sit with a sketchbook for long on the streets of Berlin, a whole new layer of the city presents itself to you.”

‘Manhwaricano’ Home in Which History Merged into Simple Geometric Vernacular

Ask any kid to draw a house, and odds are they’ll begin with a rectangle and inevitably draw three traces at the top — simple, but a realization that Robert Venturi wouldn’t doubt delight in. This idea of a house transcends culture and place and manifests itself in 2 simple shapes, i.e., the vernacular house. This idea is was the offset point for architect Kim Seongyoul of Rieuldorang Atelier when planning the ‘Manhwaricano’ home in Korea.

‘I began designing with the question of how structure can enter the area of emotion, ”’ Kim Seongyoul describes. The architect wished to discover beauty from normal items — such as straightforward geometric shapes –, and that is just exactly what he and his team accomplished with this endeavor. This design uses the form of the ‘idea of home‘ to make a negative distance in a complicated and gorgeous project; hence offering a poetic understanding of the typical inhabitance.

All that remains of the old vernacular notion is the footprint it inhabited and the ideas it left behind. The vacated space in the kind of a roof becomes a succession leading into the home. Kim Seongyoul maintains that history is component of any project and that architecture, like art, always fits in this eternal timeline.

Clothing Brand Moncler Collaborates with Eight Designers to Rethink its Signature Down Jacket

Simone Rocha and Craig Green were among designers tasked with redesigning Moncler’s signature down coat for its new teaser job, launched in this year’s Milan Fashion Week.

At the opening night of the town’s fashion week, 20 February 2018, the clothing brand Moncler invited people to some huge Milanese hangar.

Rooms inside were each committed to one of eight collections making up the Moncler‘s Expert initiative, which can be described by the new as a “hub of exceptional heads working in unison while simultaneously cultivating their singularity”.

Moncler tasked each of the eight collaborators, which included London-based designers Simone Rocha and Craig Green, together with reinterpreting its down jacket.

They were instructed to keep its purpose in mind, ensuring that the design would still perform as a warm jacket.

“Each project has the classic Moncler down jacket as the primary playground, stands on its own, and all of them converging on the product,” stated the brand.

“Keeping function in the core and approaching the duvet as an object, unusual experiments ensue.”

Each collaboration came with an identical number and assignment statement.

The first group, called Moncler 1, watched Valentino creative manager Pierpaolo Piccioli design together with the “pure essence” of Moncler in your mind.

Doing so, he stripped back the duvet coat — creating minimal clothes in elongated silhouettes, which he founded on his prior couture collections.

Moncler 2 seemed to the new heritage. Described as a “homage to the year old,” the Moncler 1952 clothing are predicated on the brand‘s classic layouts — but in bold colors with enlarged logos.

Moncler 3 was based on Grenoble — a town at the front of the French Alps at which Moncler began. While made from mix-and-match printed materials, the coats are designed as technical wear for mountain climbing and hiking.

To create the fourth collection, Moncler teamed up with fashion designer Simone Rocha, who generated voluminous silhouettes based on photos of Victorian climbers in petticoats.

Menswear designer Craig Green was supporting Moncler 5. The designer aimed to abstract the entire body through his group, which he created in monochrome clothes.

Black fabric was also used exclusively by designer Kei Ninomiya, who changed the new down jacket to a collection of modular elements to make Moncler 6.

Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Moncler 7 looked to streetwear subcultures, while Los Angeles tag Palm Angels emblazoned Moncler 8 with bold lettering.

By producing these eight diffusion collections, Moncler expects to better-appeal into the “uniqueness of the consumer”.

“Allowing imagination run riot reinforces the uniqueness of Moncler,” said the brand. “It helps the product to talk by itself as it takes different shapes in line with the concept of each undertaking.”

Moncler Genius launched during this year’s Milan Fashion Week, which kicked off on 20 February and will run until 27 February 2018.
